I actually haven't used it yet - I'm kind of scared to! Also, we don't have any of the high-efficiency detergent. We have a HUGE box of the normal powdered detergent, but I've been reading and reading and can't find anyplace that will tell me it's okay to use it. So...we'll probably just donate it to someone who still has a normal machine. Sounds like it doesn't hurt the washer at all, it just doesn't wash out well when so little water is used - your clothes will have some soap residue and will get dirty faster.
The installers didn't do the greatest job ever - apparently our walls are "too thick" and the normal clamping mechanism to get the dryer exhaust tube outside didn't fit. Last night we had a lot of wind and when I leaned over the back of the dryer, I could feel gusts of air coming out through the joint. That's the other reason I didn't test it out...more trips to Home Depot are in our future!
Quilt: I ripped off the badly-sewn binding last night. Previously, I'd double-folded and ironed the binding and then tried to machine sew through all layers. There were all SORTS of areas where one or another layer hadn't caught, or where the seam swung wildly around on the visible part of the quilt. Ugh. Now I've done the machine sewing of just the top part of the binding - next step is to hand-sew it to the back of the quilt all the way around. Now it'll be bullet-proof. Except for the fact that it's weaker due to my ripping out.
